This Program's for You
Melissa, WormExplore.Zip, Happy99.exe. It seems you can't go through your emails these days without seeing in the subject line "New Infection is killing files through e-mails, "Dangerous Virus - please read. "High Risk Virus, do not open." For those of us who have been using computers for a while, these subject lines may give us pause. Experience has taught us that a good anti-virus program and safe computing practices will keep those pesky little viruses away. For those of you who are new to computing or for those who have been a little lax in updating your anti-virus program, this program's for you.
Started with Norton Anti-Virus
I've been using Norton Anti-virus since I started using computers several years ago. As Kash said in the read.me article "The Software Utility People can't live without." the choice to use Norton was reviewed as the best and is the most reliable. It was why I started using it and here are some of the reasons why I continue to use this software
Great information in one package
A manual, registration form, and a CD which includes online manuals, adobe acrobat reader, video about viruses, product information, reference guide, and user guide. Once you've registered, Norton reminds you to put your serial # in a safe place. I always put mine in my manual and on the CD cover
Easy Installation
It took several minutes to install Norton Anti-Virus Ver 5 on my Windows 95 operating system. Even a complete novice will feel at ease since it tells you what to do each step of the way. To install this software, you must have the following system requirements: 486 or higher, 8 MB of RAM or higher, Microsoft 95 or 98, 24 MB of free hard disk space, three 1.4 MB floppy disks labeled as rescue disks (in case you need to restart your computer due to a virus) and access to the Internet.
Easy Maintenance and Easy to Learn
Norton Anti-Virus has something called Live Update. You can schedule Norton to update your virus signature files every day, week or month. Live update will automatically connect to Symantec's web site, download the latest update, and install the files automatically. What's great about this is that you can quickly update your files, without having to manually go to the site, download it and then physically having to install the files. It saves time and it makes it very easy to keep your computer updated.
Peace of Mind
When you start your computer, Norton automatically scans for viruses at startup. When you try to open any files from your emails, it will also warn you whether the file has a virus or not. Norton was quickly put to the test. When I opened a file from someone I knew, a message came up "Virus found - The file c:\windows\temp\mireillemassue is infected with the W97M.Melissa.A virus. What would you like to do? It gave me four choices Stop, Continue, Repair and Delete. It forgot one other choice Breathe. My choice - I deleted it. Like the installation process, it guided me every step of the way. Even if you have used computers for a while, getting a message "Virus found" is unnerving. It helps when your software can guide you and help you through the process.

Norton Anti-Virus is certified by the ICSA formerly known the National Computer Security Association that tests and certifies commercial anti-virus software In Norton Anti-Virus Version 5, there is now protection against Trojan horses, ActiveX code and Java applets It can now safely store infected filed It has a step-by-step Scan and Deliver wizard for sending files to Symantec Anti-Virus Research Center (SARC)
Not convinced, try it out
These are more than enough reasons to continue using Norton Anti-Virus for protection. Don't take my word, Symantec wants you to try their anti-virus program out. Go to their free downloads page for a free 30 day trial. What better way to convince you.
